The actors had great voices and were able to sing the almost operatic score to great effect. We enjoyed the singing very much. The story was acted very well, too. This story of healing and rediscovering family love was powerfully portrayed. Our eyes were leaking from the middle of the first act on. (It was just because we had both had large glasses of water before we came, of course.) The entire production was marvelous.
I had only seen this show once before. It was done in a very small theater at a community center. As I recall, there were no sets. The actors just carried on a few props. I remember that a group of extras became the garden wall using fabric that they carried on. I must not have been very impressed with that show. I don't remember very much about it. I will definitely remember this HCT production, though. It was fabulous.
What a difference state-of-the-art technology makes combined with superb singing and acting and imaginative costumes, scenic design and even darling puppets. The animal puppets (worked in full view on stage by actors) were my favorites. Such a delight.
We sang all the way home!
