Family Choir Arrangements
Keeping a ward choir together throughout the entire year is a difficult task. So, switching it up occasionally might be an interesting alternative. You might try asking a few families to provide a musical number as a Family Choir for worship services once in a while. Here are a few songs and arrangements suitable for a group of adults and children. Some families are loaded with vocal talent, others not so much. These arrangements have been used successfully for small and large family choir groups, with or without much talent, but with lots of heart and appropriate amounts of practice.
Children (unchanged voices) generally sing in a one octave range from about Middle C up to Treble C. Most songs with a one octave range can be adapted for children to sing in a Family Choir group. Sometimes the verse is too low or too high for the children, but the chorus is just right. Or it could be the other way around. Encourage the children to sing in their best voices and sing along with the adults when the ranges are appropriate, or leave them out, or spotlight them for a few phrases. The children's lighter voices provide a delightful color change in the sound. As the children get older and gain confidence and ear training, encourage them to sing the harmony parts, too.
