So lift up your voice and sing!
Just start a glad song, let it float, let it ring!
And lift up your voice and sing!”
This poignant little children’s song "Lift Up Your Voice and Sing" by Richard C. Berg says it all!
Consider the Gift of Song.
The combination of melody, rhythm, harmony and words has such power. Power to gladden the heart and lift the soul. Power to push the work along. Power to heal our grief. Power to channel our thoughts – good or bad and everything in between. Power to punctuate our emotions. Power to turn our souls toward Heaven.
“We shall make music to brighten our day.
Music will help us to lighten our way.”
I think we all can identify with Snow White or Giselle (Disney Princesses) and wish we could call some forest friends to help do chores by singing a “happy little working song.” And what woman on earth doesn’t melt when she hears a wonderful male voice singing a love song? And who doesn’t chuckle to hear the lyrics of a comical song? And don't we just thrill to the patriotic finale of Les Miserables, “Can You Hear the People Sing?” And who can resist the ultimate longing of the folk song “Shenandoah?”
I am grateful every day for the gift of song. I hope you will allow a song to brighten your day and lighten your way. And I hope that your song will coax you to do the singing!
Lift up your voice!
Lift up your voice!
Lift up your voice and sing!”
The experience of writing this song is one I will treasure forever. It was a surely a Gift of Song directly from Heaven.
