Because of the short notice, our music was changed suddenly to accommodate the King's Singers. They sang two pieces alone and we also sang a few pieces alone. Then for the finale, we sang "The Sussex Carol" arranged by Mack Wilberg, together. The King's Singers have been featured on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas CD "Rejoice and Be Merry" from the Christmas concert several years ago. It's another wonderful way to usher in the Christmas Season. And I got to check off another box on my personal bucket list. Since joining the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I have wanted the King's Singers to return so that I could also say that I shared the stage with them! And they did!
The blend that these wonderful singers achieve is nothing short of miraculous. They sing perfectly in tune with spot-on intonation. Our directors are always encouraging us to unify our vowels and listen louder than we sing so that we can sing perfectly in tune and have the overtones line up providing marvelous, brilliant resonance. Well, having the King's Singers with us gave us an up close and personal demonstration of just that brilliant intonation and resonance. And we know that there is no editing or electronic finagling going on here, just great singing.
Sometimes I just have to pinch myself that I get to have these marvelous singing experiences! Next up, the 2013 Christmas Concerts with Deborah Voigt (Metropolitan Opera star) and John Rhys-Davies (famed British actor). It is sure to be a busy week!
