The U. S. Constitution Medley
Arranged by Janie Thompson
This arrangement was first performed at the Constitution Ball broadcast throughout the United States of America by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on September 17, 1987. Since that time, Janie conducted this arrangement on many Patriotic shows including a production of "We the People" performed during the Freedom Festival in Provo, Utah in the 4th of July celebrations.
Janie is no longer with us to pull together performers and conduct this powerful piece. This is a legacy for those of us who knew her and performed under her direction.
Side Note: Janie rarely wrote out her accompaniments. When she or my mother would accompany, they would improvise on the spot. This is one of the few arrangements that actually had the accompaniments as she notated them in her handwritten score, but it was always played with added piano embellishments during performances. Sometimes she would hire an arranger to create parts for the combo of instrumentalists. This is my faithful attempt at notating what she actually wrote. She almost never gave tempo changes or dynamics instructions in the score, either. She always conducted, so she gave those instructions on the spot. This medley has many changes in tempo and dynamics. Use your best judgement there!
