America, the Beautiful SSATB with opt. descant
This arrangement came about from the request of my sisters. Each voice has a featured verse in an appropriate key. We have been requested to sing this piece more often than anything else in our repertoire. The optional descant is wonderful when more than 3 voices are singing.
My daughters and I sang this for a special memorial service just after the World Trade Towers came down on 9/11/2001. Singing the line "Thine alabaster cities gleam undimmed by human tears" will never be the same for me again. I can barely sing through the tears during that verse.
Using the template of the SSA America, the Beautiful arrangement, the SSATB version adds parts for Tenor and Bass (mostly in unison). This arrangement was written to sing anywhere, anytime, because it is to be sung a cappella. The premier performance featured a group with more women than men. It worked out very well.
