Written by German composer Leo Jessel, "The Parade of the Tin Soldiers" was written as an instrumental piece in 1897. It instantly became popular as a choreographed dance piece for Ballet companies around the world. One Ballet impresario changed its title in 1922 to use it to tell the Russian folk tale about wooden soldiers. In fact, the Rockettes have performed their own version of it every year since 1933 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
This piece instantly summons up the vision of toys marching and dancing around the Christmas Tree. A delightful piece to play and even more fun to play as a duet.
