The text for this song are based on the words of the prophet Alma to one of his sons in Alma 37.  One Father's Day, I was asked to give a talk.  Since I dread public speaking, but still desiring to honor fathers, I decided to write a song. These words from a loving father to his son seemed to me the perfect text for a song honoring fathers on Father's Day.

"Counsel with the Lord in all Thy Doings" is also a great piece to sing for Church services on the themes of Praise, Thanksgiving, Prayer, and Counseling.
