Counsel with the Lord in All Thy Doings - for SATB Chorus and Piano
Words and Music by Betsy Lee Bailey

"Counsel with the Lord in All Thy Doings" was inspired by the words of the prophet Alma (Alma 37:37) as he gave counsel and advice to his son Helaman. His advice was to pray always, even asking the Lord's guidance in the smallest and simplest of matters.
For Father's Day once many years ago, I was asked to give a talk at Church. Those who knew me then, remember that I was not too keen on public speaking. As I was pondering on what to say in my talk, I recalled the prophet Alma in the Book of Mormon (Alma 37:37) speaking to his sons. What a wonderful father he must have been to give such counsel to his children. I thought that this might be a good topic for my Father's Day talk, but I had a sudden burst of inspiration, so I had to take the time to write this song first. My daughter and a quartet of her friends actually sang it for the meeting, as well. Their stirring performance gave me the courage to go ahead and give my talk. I don't have a clue as to what I said, but I sure remember how beautifully the kids sang!
This is great for the themes of Prayer, Praise, Thanksgiving, and even Father's Day.
Also available in a SSA version for Women's voices and 2-Part Mixed
