As refreshing as having new things come along can be, it can also cause a lot of bother. The problems seem to boil down to just this: You don't just have to learn something new, you have to unlearn everything you've used before that gets in its way.
For example, the music writing software program I had used for years went out of business. That means I have to settle on getting a new software notation program. It took me a good 20 years to learn the old program and all of its updates and changes. Now I have to try to keep the transferrable information from those years, but be open and flexible enough to learn new routines.
The routines aren't as hard to tackle as learning new vocabulary and placement of where to find the unique icons they represent on the ribbons and pulldown menus. I keep having to tell myself that smart people created these programs. I'm sure they tried to include ideas from end users as well, but, in the end, it is still just some people's bright ideas that were adopted and adapted for use by the public.
For me, I might as well be trying to learn Chinese or Russian.
I have never been very good at learning new languages.
This has been rather frustrating. I wonder if I'll ever figure it out!
